Adel Chefridi

"The colors of natural gemstones are the best complement to the natural beauty of people. My work attempts to present the innate beauty of both the gemstones and the wearer. "

Adel Chefridi was born in the old Tunisian city of Tunis, along the Mediterranean coast. In 1998 he came to New York, where he founded his studio. He increasingly drew inspiration from his multicultural background, resulting in an attempt in his work to reconcile past and present, nostalgia and hope. His designs emphasize simplicity, wearability, durability, and openness to light and movement. Using natural gemstones, he gives his pieces a friendly and peaceful feel that make them perfect for everyday wear.

He creates his pieces using solid precious metals and natural gemstones. Models are made out of wax or resin, either according to predetermined measurements or made completely free-form, resulting in spontaneous, and at times, chaotic shapes. Many of the pieces are made directly by metal forming. Gemstones almost always appear in his work, requiring stone-setting techniques ranging from beadwork to micro-setting.

Chefridi studied gemology in the most advanced gem lab and school in the U.S., the Gemological Institute of America, where he graduated as Graduate Gemologist (GG) and Accredited Jewelry Professional (AJP). He then went on to the intensive study of goldsmithing at Studio Jewelers, where he graduated as a bench jeweler. He has studied Computer Aided Design (CAD), as well as a variety of other jewelry-making and wax-modeling techniques.
