Lara Moore

Bella Bella Arts

"Nothing is better than hearing someone say, " I use my Bella Bella piece everyday, and it always makes me smile." That is the best!"

Lara makes furniture mirrors wall art, counter tops back splashes, and custom home furnishings using a technique she made up herself. Starting with a wooden form, she attaches hundreds of layers of tissue paper, Lara loves how the viewer often questions the material. "is it glass?" Is it metal" Most assume it must be painted. Lara explains that she is a horrible painter, but a great "cutter-outer". She loves how quickly she can achieve color and line instantly with cutting paper.

Starting with a wooden form, Lara layers tissue paper, sometimes hundreds, hand cutting each individual design element to create her designs. Then each piece is coated with a thick glossy resin. The resin reacts with the paper to offer the rich, velvety textured color for the eye, and a hard glass-like feel for the hand. The resin also provides industrial grade durability, heat alcohol, and water resistance. Soap and water or Windex clean up.

Lara studied at history and interior design at Indiana University. Developing the technique was accidental following a recuperation from chemotherapy in the early 90's.
