Deborah Bruns-Thomas
"I'm driven by color, light, transparency, and chance. The ever changing interactions between colors in a given environment become inspiration for my work."
Artist Deborah Bruns-Thomas is intrigued by the color of tea, and by teabags themselves. By transforming these innocuous objects into pieces of her artwork, the artist plays with our perception of art, with light, and with the way the translucency of the material transforms light into color.
Each lampshade is handmade from individual 3" x 5" tea bags dyed with acrylic paint, then glued together to create larger compositions. An acrylic polymer medium encases and preserves the sheets. Collaborator and husband, Dave Thomas, completes each lamp with a contemporary wood base of warm black walnut and steel.
