Dustin Farnsworth

Dustin Farnsworth believes in a craft sensibility that seems all but extinct, inspired by a time before disposable was a viable consideration and the product outlasted the purchaser. Farnsworth works in a vernacular of near nostalgia while embracing the simplicity and intelligence of modernized design. These elements coalesce in a fine balance of highly crafted and visually stunning work.

Farnsworth mixes new and traditional techniques in his furniture. Most of his work involves hand fabricated mild steel and bent plywood laminations. Most notably he experiments with materials not traditionally used in furniture such as the plastic HDPE, as well as coating surfaces with the high gloss shine of automotive paints.

Farnsworth's formal training was completed at Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Although he attributes his foundation in drawing and building to his mother and father, many of the techniques used in his furniture have been developed through personal exploration. Farnsworth has worked for such makers as Brent Skidmore, Stoney Lamar, and Sylvie Rosenthal.
