Joan Bazaz
"Even before asking me questions about my patterns or technique, people hold my glass pieces up to the light. I began making lamps as a response to this powerful impulse."

Joan Bazaz comes from a ceramics background, and approaches glass as a surface that needs a glaze. She applies powdered glass enamels onto a clear glass sheet, which she then fires in a kiln. Like ceramic glaze, the enamel design is permanently bonded to the underlying form and provides a durable waterproof finish. The lamps are fabricated of copper, with a chemical patina tinted to complement the warm glow of the glass panels.
