"I consider myself to be a mixed media artist who primarily works with blown and kiln cast glass.
"
Joshua Hershman creates works in glass that encourage new ways of looking at photography and bring deeper meaning to the photographic image. In his work, Hershman emphasizes the beauty of camera design and function by focusing on how images shape our memories, dreams, and consciousness.
Hershman sculpts his original designs using many glass forming techniques, such as off hand glassblowing, flameworking, and lost wax casting. In the final stages of each process, Hershman pays close attention to the fine details and polishing of the glass.
Hershman was introduced to glass working in high school in 1997. He continued his studies at Sheridan College in Ontario, Canada, receiving a Diploma in 2004 with a concentration in glass. He went on to earn a BFA with distinction from the California College of the Arts in Oakland in 2008.
