"When depicting a story, my challenge is to make the functional aspects of the teapot believable to the viewer, but not visible to the characters in the scene."
Laura Wilensky's "Botanical Series" of teapots combines her passion for gardening with reflections on people and relationships. Family photos, memories, and dreams inspire her. The teapots express thoughts, feelings and aspects of Wilensky's life - some real and some imagined.
Brilliant white porcelain serves as a canvas, while high temperature stains and low temperature overglazes provide a wide range of colors. Wilensky accepts her materials for all they offer, using the plasticity of clay to achieve realistic portrayals of people and places.
Her husband and fellow GUILD artist, Henry Cavanagh, has shared her life and a studio for more than thirty years.
