Linda Sweeney

"Each one of my paintings is a journey. I think of myself as a colorist, exploring and exaggerating color along the way. The rich colors of the pastel allow me to express feelings and emotions, as well as to provoke the viewer's response to the journey."

Linda Sweeney lives in Lake Placid, NY, where she is surrounded by the beauty that is the High Peaks area of the Adirondack Park. Each day, the natural environment provides inspiration for creativity.

Sweeney now works almost exclusively in pastel to explore location, as well as conceptual or abstract spaces. The pure pigment that is pastel lends itself perfectly to beautifully interpret the idea of landscape. The medium of pastel allows her to apply many layers to achieve the richness and tonality of space.

As an elementary school student, Sweeney won an art competition and has been creating art ever since. She holds a B.A. in studio arts from Chatham College, where she studied various art forms ranging from graphics to sculpture. Her studies abroad exposed her to classical and contemporary art forms. She continued her post-graduate work in art, concentrating in two-dimensional mediums, especially pastel.
