"I want my clay work to bring a sense of joy and a hint at the mystery of life."
Marilee Hall works in a former ice cream factory to create pieces that tend toward the whimsical.
With her studio cat to guide her, Hall uses slabs, coils and extrusions, pinching, paddling, rolling, and squeezing to make forms. She brushes and sponges layers of colors, raking and scribing to create textures, creating pieces with personality and warmth. Her work speaks with compassion and humor of spirit, expressed outwardly through figurative elements in sculpture.
