"We strive to reinvent the everyday object. The unique aesthetics and quality of our creations make them stand out."
Patricia Gendron and Michel Rouleau's work refers to the simple pleasures of the countryside or an afternoon on the beach. They freely explore new functions and funky looks with a hint of humor for everyday objects. They founded Afternoon Design in 2008.
Each piece begins with a sketch. A virtual image is then created for proportion, size, color, and texture, followed by a draft for crafting the piece. This is Michel's part. Patricia then makes the prototype in her workshop. Wood, veneer, and metal are their favored materials. Sometimes they use recycled wood.
In 2005, Patricia Gendron graduated in cabinetmaking from The ENME, a furniture-making school in Montreal. In 1988, Michel Rouleau discovered the furniture studio during a trip to Paris, where he studied for a year at The ENSAD, an artistic school of decorative arts. He graduated a year later in industrial design from the University of Montreal.
