"I love painting landscapes because it allows me the opportunity to express my response to the vastness and mysteries of nature."
Scott Kahn thinks about his work as a visual diary, a record of his life, a reporting of the places and people he has encountered. He finds it challenging to begin a painting, despite the variety and complexity of the world. "If I am successful, hopefully, the painting will have depth, poetry and honesty." Kahn believes that to achieve this result, a creative person calls upon every tool available--technical, emotional, intuitive, and intellectual. The act of creating, therefore, teaches us and reveals to us who we are and our relationship to life. This is why Scott Kahn paints.
Kahn employs the traditional, time proven technique of painting in oil on linen, and uses the best quality materials available. He begins with an underpainting and slowly and organically builds his image with multiple layers of paint and glazes. The final surface is rich with nuances of depth and subtle color.
