Susan and Jeff Wise

Susan and Jeff Wise

"The creation of art is the very core of who we are. In addition to jewelry, Susan is a painter and I'm a sculptor, and we've also built 2 aesthetically challenging, dynamic homes. Even while I'm sitting here writing about our work, I'd much rather be doing our work. Enough said, off to the studio."

Jewelry is sculpture on a diminutive scale whose full significance is revealed when it is worn. Susan and Jeff Wise make bold dynamic forms which create a bridge between shapes rooted in nature and those derived from architecture and geometry. They embrace the challenge of making work which is comfortable, yet powerful in concept

The Wises create work that is almost all hand-fabricated from sheet and wire, which they also make by hand. In addition, the artists cut most of their own stones. The artists enjoy the entire process of creation and with this process, they have total control over the finished pieces.

Metalwork and stone-cutting have been a lifelong passion for Susan and Jeff Wise. Jeff started at the age of 12, taught by his silversmithing grandfather while Susan has been working with metal for nearly 25 years. Much of their knowledge comes from working together in the studio for so long. They've taken workshops from other artists, and they've taught at Penland, Taos Pueblo, and Escola Llotja in Barcelona, Spain.
