For ten years, Bengt Hokanson and Trefny Dix have collaborated in creating their original glass art pieces. Their work has been influenced by everything from classic Italian glass blowing to world textiles to urban graffiti. These elements inspire each piece to be about action that is trapped for a moment in time. The simple, organic forms suggest just enough movement to emphasize the drama of their saturated, luminescent colors.
Each piece is painted in glass using a variety of techniques. Layers of hot color and overlays are incorporated, and murrinis and the incalmo process are often included. The artists create depth in each piece by using both transparent and opaque colors, turning each painting into a sculpture.
