Kipley A. Meyer
"The focus of my work is to create interplay and harmony between the disparate elements in art and nature that inspire me, including abstract forms, primitive art, and the philosophy of minimalism."
Kipley Meyer's approach to furniture design is steeped in tradition, but not limited to that same tradition. Inspired by many forms of music, art, and architecture, he often combines smooth, clean lines with heavily textured surfaces to create work he calls "organic-contemporary." With each piece Meyer tries to delight the senses. Just as an object's overall shape and color appeals to one's eyes, a smooth or carved surface beckons to be touched. Meyer's pieces are designed to be used and to withstand the rigors of everyday life.
Meyer creates his pieces using the best stable and solid woods, and treats his surfaces with a vast array of finishes: layered dyes and lacquers, milk paint, textural carvings, burning, and waxes. He employs traditional joinery where needed, including mortise and tenon, dovetail, bridal and lap joints.
Meyer is a selt-taught furniture artist and sculptor.
