Glenys Porter

"I find beauty in the most unlikely places--a rusting nail, paint peeling off an old door, water-stained cement. My interest is drawn to the beautiful textures and juxtaposition of color that Nature creates during its quiet and patient reclaiming of the man-made."

Glenys Porter has always been fascinated by the visual impact of humanity upon nature. A former realist, her attention has, in recent years, turned to abstract interpretations focusing on texture and color. She is inspired by the evidence of man's ingenuity and nature's patience coexisting--seemingly incongruous, yet harmonious. Her paintings are structurally abstract images influenced by this perception.

Most of Glenys Porter's works are painted on deep supports, which require no framing and offer a clean, contemporary look. The paint is built up on a texturized surface, alternating opaque with translucent, thick with thin, often embellished with additional molded and sculpted acrylic material fashioned by the artist. The result offers not only visual depth and interest, but also a tactile quality, almost inviting the viewer to touch.
