“These paintings refer to places real and imagined. In doing my work, I try to become a vehicle or an open channel for visual impressions which seem to come from the present and very familiar and also from the near and distant past. Drawing and painting are one in the same for me in this regard.”

As landscapes emerge from the reflective multi-layered surfaces of John Berens’ paintings, the viewer is immersed within a poetic realm of our own observable world.
