"Christmas Confetti Glass Candleholder"

Art Glass Candleholder

Created by Ed Edwards
The kiln formed, glass candleholder is created by crisscrossing layers of thin red, green, and clear confetti filled strips of glass into a plaid pattern. The pattern is then fused and slumped to create the basket. The candleholder comes alive with color when the candlelight passes through the glass strips. The confetti glass provides a subtle elegance. Each candleholder is unique and will vary slightly from the image shown. A votive candle is provided. Signed and dated on bottom.

About this Artist

Ed Edwards

"My work explores the liquid nature of glass, allowing it to flow or fold, and then freezing it at the moment the glass reaches the desired shape."

Glass artist Ed Edwards is interested in creating pieces of glass that take advantage of the liquid appearance, transparency, and reflective nature of glass. Designing each piece so that it flows outside of the mold, Edwards uses the outer edge of his bowls as legs that hold the bowl above the table's surface.

Edwards begins each piece by fusing the multiple layers of base glass and design elements together as a flat piece. He then creates a custom mold for each piece that allows the glass to fold and flow as it slumps. By cooling the piece at the right moment, Edwards freezes it in the desired form.

Originally trained as a stained glass artist, Edwards transitioned to fused glass for a commission and has continued to develop his unique perspective and style.
