"Arch Console Table"

Art Glass Console Table

Created by Helen Rudy
One of a Kind
This one of a kind high style table is entirely hand made from the building the steel arch base to the unique glass top. As opposed to most glass table tops, this top is fused and not cast, allowing for greater control over color placement and final design. The wide border color is red and French Vanilla, and the outer perimeter border is Red, French Vanilla, Black and Clear.

Hand cut 1/2 in thick strips of colored glass layered like dominoes on their edge to create the dramatic stripes and patterning. With careful selection of colors and placement of the glass the pattern moves and changes as you view the piece form different angles. Sometimes the colors are solid and sometimes you see clear stripes. The center panel made up of horizontal layers, thus combining two techniques to form one single piece of glass. There may be small bumps on the surface caused by air tapped within the many layers.

If situated in a sunny spot or under a light the pattern and colors will be transposed casting a colorful collage on the floor. Hand diamond polished edges magnify the detail.

The glass is fired to 1525 degrees to solid piece and then gently annealed and cooled to room temperature.

The table base is designed by Helen Rudy the artist and is hand welded 1/4in steel. The steel looks like a dark graphite with polished steel accents. the base has a clear satin powder coat finish. The table can be displayed as a traditional Arch or upside down as shown in the photographs. The glass top is sized to fit proportionally whichever ever way up is desired.

This is one of a kind. Each table top is different. Custom sizes and colors are available. Please contact our Customer Care department for more information.

About this Artist

Helen Rudy

" I am interested in how colors mix and react to create depth and balance in the piece. I focus on the subtle effects light can have on the art."

Helen Rudy came to creating beautiful fused glass pieces from a non-traditional background in construction management. Her attention to color detail, layering, and saturation heralds back to her degree. Her crisp and clean designs clearly focus on the interaction of light and its effect on the glass.

Each piece of glass is measured and hand cut. By layering one color or many different colors on top of each other, a bright and bold design is created. The glass is first fired in a kiln to about 1500 degrees F to melting or fusing point. Sometimes a second firing is needed to create a shape. The glass can be in the kiln for several days before finishing.

Almost entirely self taught, Rudy attended workshops with Milon Townsend, and Lisa Voigt, attended the Pilchuck Scool of Glass to study with Alicia Lomne, and in 2011 studied casting Pate De Verre with Anna Boothe.
