"Jellyfish Sphere"

Art Glass Paperweight

Created by Eben Horton
Inspired by the micro sized jellyfish that let off a phospherescent glow, this 4" glass sphere does a good job at imagining what one might look like. The glass does not glow, but changes color in different light environments. In direct sunlight, it looks amber, but when lit indirectly in the dark, the jellyfish takes on a beautiful blue color.

Sold with an acrylic display stand.
Dimensions: 4.0in diameter

About this Artist

Eben Horton

"My work is a combination of alchemy and craftsmanship used to create bold vessels that seem to contain a galaxy within. "

Eben Horton is a classically trained Venetian-style glass maker. He recently abandoned his notions about the limitations of glass and began experimenting with the use of precious metals on the glass's surface. Horton describes his work as "moments in space and time captured within glass."

Horton creates the unique look of his work by vaporizing precious metals onto the surface of the glass. The metals crystalize, creating formations that look like photographs of distant galaxies, deep sea trenches, or views of the Earth from space.

Eben Horton began blowing glass in 1989 at the age of fifteen. He attended the BFA program at the School for American Crafts and taught at the Corning Museum of Glass before moving back to Rhode Island in 2000 to build his own glass studio. He has attended many workshops in glassblowing and has studied glass color making and chemistry with glass artist Peter Vanderlaan.
