One of a series of four designs. This is more of an exhibition piece than a flower vase. Produced in a small limited edition, it illustrates Penelope's love of nature and printmaking. Each hand drawn image is cut from a stamp. The designs are then applied to an already segmented vase by means of the stamp. The enamel is then heated and the resist removed. Every other square is then painted out with resist and a final layer of enamel is applied. Best placed in a cabinet or alcove with a good light. Washing with mild detergent will not harm these enamels. Limited edition of 100.

About this Artist

Penelope Wurr

"I don't really think of my self as a glass artist. I am primarily a print-maker, exploring surface techniques on glass My work is entirely unique, I am about simplicity and elegance and sometimes I'm a little whimsical. I'm interested in designing a group of work that works well together."

Penelope's career has been varied. She has worked as a story board artist for movies and advertising and as an illustrator of children's books and editorial. Her influences have been as far reaching as the Ikebana classes held by her grandmother to the William Morris wallpapers and fabrics that surrounded her in her childhood home.

Adapting some of the techniques of printmaking, Penelope developed a unique method of enameling on glass, which is patented in England and the US. The process uses a combination of sandblasting and translucent enamel overlays to create a graphic finish more reminiscent of textiles than of glass. For Penelope the exploration of the technical aspect of her work has almost as much appeal as the artistic elements.

Penelope received her BA with 1st honors in Graphic Design and Illustration from Camberwell school of art in London. She completed her post-graduate course in printmaking at the Central School of Art, where she was the winner of the prestigious Royal Academy Printmaking scholarship. while Penelope has attended a variety of glass blowing work shops her work has primarily been focused on surface exploration.
