This series of vases is inspired in part by Japanese bronze vases for the Seika style of Ikebana originating form the late 18th century. They were made of two nesting vessels with the upper one having a well and flared rim. In this piece, Jones has borrowed the idea to create a vase that has multiple ways of functioning.

Explorations of form and color have always marked Richard Jones' glass artistry. The fact that the work is handblown, using traditional glassmaking techniques, is an integral part of each design, allowing for a wide variety of designs and imbuing each piece with subtle but significant features.

Jones' abiding interest in new directions has lately steered him toward Chinese ceramics. Chinese characters and motifs adorn his work. In all his pieces he seeks balance, harmony and a sense of peace. Objects that bear witness to the silence inherent in all things.
