About this Artist

James Bourret

"I seek to create richly evocative, emotional images in nature, reflecting the mood, form, colors, and patterns of a scene. My best images are often highly abstract."

Fine art photographer James Bourret is a native of the San Francisco Bay area and currently lives with his family in Ketchum, Idaho. He is motivated by a reverence for the natural landscape and a concern for the future of our environment. He has been a practicing architect since 1985.

Photographer James Bourret uses finely honed shooting techniques and digital equipment to capture rich, evocative images in nature. His techniques parallel those used in the traditional darkroom. No compositing or other image manipulations are made. Prints are carefully made by the artist using 100 percent cotton rag papers and archival pigment inks for long lasting, UV stable prints.

James Bourret received his professional education at the University of Texas at Austin, but his interest in making photographic images began long before, in high school art courses. Traditional darkroom techniques learned there have given way to the digital darkroom, and the sense of freedom gained by leaving the darkroom behind has opened many new doors. After a long hiatus from serious photographic work, Jamie acquired his first digital camera in 2004 and began making photographs again.
