Drawing from her extensive experience with clay and printmaking, Young hand-cuts porcelain and applies a print collage to tile surfaces, setting each in a poplar frame. The result: a mirror of intriguing detail and rich glazed colors. Mirror measures 11"H x 8.5"W. Dimensions refer to frame size.

Eileen Young

"My work has a timeless simplicity where I aspire to capture a monumental feeling in a small-scale object. I am inspired by the irregularity of architectural ruins."

Eileen Young creates handsome one-of-a-kind and production mirrors and clocks inspired by the artist's extensive clay and printmaking experience. To begin each piece, Young creates tiles cut from porcelain clay slabs. Each tile's texture is created by rolling collographs over the clay. After firing, color is applied and collage is added to complete the image. The tile face is then protected with several applications of sealant. The finished tiles are set and grouted into custom poplar frames.
