The covered boxes are hand built with porcelain slabs. The artist uses this timeless method of raku in making her flower containers, wall vases and covered boxes. Raku requires rapid firing process. Each tile is fired in an outdoor gas kiln until its surface temperature rises to 1800 F. When the glaze melts, the piece is removed, red hot, and placed in a can of wood shavings. The container is covered, creating a reduction atmosphere within the can that makes an extraordinary unlike any other. After the pieces have cooled they are washed to remove any ashes. The inside of the piece is then sealed so that it will hold water.

Eileen Young creates handsome one-of-a-kind and production mirrors and clocks inspired by the artist's extensive clay and printmaking experience. To begin each piece, Young creates tiles cut from porcelain clay slabs. Each tile's texture is created by rolling collographs over the clay. After firing, color is applied and collage is added to complete the image. The tile face is then protected with several applications of sealant. The finished tiles are set and grouted into custom poplar frames.
