"Clay is a very forgiving medium. I can translate almost anything within my imagination using my hands and clay." Studio potter Dwo-Wen Chen describes his work as "undisciplined and whimsical". Born and raised in Taiwan, educated at RISD and now finds himself working in his studio in Pawtucket, Rhode Island for the past 12 years. He has incorporated both traditional and modern influence into his clay work and glazing techniques. Dwo-Wen creates his pieces through wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques. The glaze is applied carefully by brushstroke. Each piece is unique and no two pieces are identical. Dwo-Wen Chen earned his Masters of Fine Art in Art Education at RISD Providence, Rhode Island. Although not classically trained as a potter, he sees no do's or don'ts in pottery making.
It takes time to make great artwork. Most of the pieces we offer are created one at a time by the artist, and shipped directly to you from the artist's studio.
