A whimsical wheel thrown ceramic mug, decorated with sgraffito using black slip, featuring an owl perched in the branches. Glazed to give a glossy finish. Each piece is unique, and will vary slightly from piece to piece. Dishwasher and microwave safe; holds approximately 16 oz.

Jennifer Falter

"I strive to make pots that others will enjoy using in their daily lives."

Jennifer Falter's craft as a potter allows her to both create and embellish. She enjoys making functional, yet decorative porcelain pots, encased in a tactile, sgraffito or carved surface. Her love of pattern making, line, and mark making appear in both her narrative, light-hearted pieces and in the quiet nature-inspired wares. Her pieces invite the viewer to investigate through touch, sight, and use.

Each piece of Jennifer's work is thrown from porcelain on the potter's wheel. This pure white canvas of the clay provides a striking contrast to the layers of black slip that she brushes on to the surface of the pot. After all layers are applied, Jennifer carves the entire exterior with a small loop tool to expose the clay and bring her imagery to life. Afterward, each piece is bisqued, clear glazed and fired. All of her work is both dishwasher and microwave safe.

Jennifer graduated from Missouri State University in 1996 with a BFA in ceramics. She has worked diligently in clay since graduation and has gone on to share this passion with her community.

I got this mug and one of another design as a gift from my sister and I LOVE them!! Artful, fun, and each is beautifully created with a unique personality. It makes drinking a cup of coffee a real treat!

Love Jennifer Falters awesome artwork
The workmanship is wonderful. I love the shape, size,texture and whimsical quality of this mug. It is a great conversation piece as well as usefull. I use my Jennifer Falter mugs every day all day long. They give you a smile in your day.

Love these mugs!
I needed to replace some commercial mugs that overheat in the microwave, so I chose to purchase a couple of these wonderful, handmade mugs. They do indeed go through the microwave and dishwasher well. My tea heats up, but the mug stays reasonably cool. The handle is extremely comfortable, and the cup holds plenty. I love them so much, I'm going to order more.

Beautiful, whimsical, practical
We bought this because we prefer to use handmade items in our kitchen rather than those mass-produced, and we love owls. The mug is large - holds a little over 2 cups - and is perfect for tea, hot chocolate, coffee, soup. The handle is comfortable, and the cup has a little indent so that your knuckles are not scratched while curling around the handle. The outside is comfortable to hold with an open hand. You can feel the design on your lip as you drink from it, but it is not sharp or uncomfortable. It's become my favorite mug.

This is BIG mug!
I have not found a use for it yet, as it is really too large for coffee or hot chocolate or tea, unless you fill it only halfway. I like the black and white coloring and the carved work in the design.

Fantastic!
It is simply fantastic. I would recommend to include a gift box if you are planning as a gift. I got 4 mugs and 4 matching bowls and I just admire standing beautifully on the dinning table.

Couldn't wish for more
love the bold fun graphic design, the lightness, the stable shape and large size (16 ou.), the comfort of the handle design. can't imagine better. bought back-up in case of breakage.

Perfect
I bought 2 of these for my girlfriend for christmas. She has not yet seen them but I looked them over and they are excellent quality. Couldnt be happier. I may end up having to order more for her once she sees them.

Quirky and fun and beautiful.
The phrase, "Pictures don't do it justice," fits here. The glossiness of the black doesn't show in the online photos. These are quirky and fun and beautiful. If you're cautious of the phrase, "Size and design may vary slightly," don't worry here. Each piece is unique. Each owl has its own personality. But in all the pieces (I've bought several) the design is pleasingly spaced and arranged. Ms. Falter's pieces co-ordinate well with glossy, solid black tableware which is readily available and affordable.

Makes a great gift!
I bought Jennifer Falter's mugs as gifts for my four sisters - they loved them. If you are looking for something unique - these are a great choice. Wonderful craftsmanship.
