Mixed-media basket of hand extruded and altered stoneware, decorated with multiple fluid overlapping glazes in tones of white, rust, blue and green. The Asian inspired piece stands on a single unglazed foot. Sturdy reed handle is dyed to accent the piece. Narrow depth fits neatly on shelf or mantle. Signed on bottom.

Susan Wills creates hand built and extruded ceramic pieces that are functional and food safe, as well as decorative. Working predominantly with high fire stoneware, the artist uses a variety of unique glazes and slips to build interest and add texture to the clay surface. Each piece is fired twice, once to temper the ware for glazing, then a second time to over 2300° F in a natural gas kiln. Sturdy rattan handles made of imported reed and binding cane provide the final touch. Each reed is dyed to achieve a beautiful dark tone and then hand tied to accent each finished piece.
