"Basket Handled Teapot with Red Berries"

Ceramic Teapot

Created by Suzanne Crane
this item has not yet been reviewed
Crane's signature piece, the wheel thrown teapot with twining hand pulled stoneware handles now has ripe red berries to give it a little extra pop. Stoneware feet are textured with the same churchkey pattern as found on the lid and at the rim and base of the teapot body. Though this teapot pours well and can be used, it must be used with caution, as the handles at their apex are somewhat delicate. Grasp near the base of the handles and support the teapot under the spout when pouring. Botanicals will vary seasonally, but all will have red berries.

About this Artist

Suzanne Crane

"I sometimes think of my botanical work in stoneware as preserving a type of fossil record of biological diversity. My functional pieces are rooted in the rituals of human culture and are reminders of our absolute dependence on the natural world."

Growing up in a family of botanists, Suzanne Crane watched her mother collect, identify and press rare prairie plant specimens. She loved the abstract patterns that resulted. Crane now gathers flora from creek sides and the slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains to press into the stoneware clay of her ceramic pieces.

Influenced as much by chaos theory and fractal geometry as the Arts and Crafts Movement, Crane creates stylized abstractions on every pot, urn and platter.
