Andy Rogers
"I have a great curiosity for the things I see in our natural world and it is my challenge to create objects that will instill that inquisitiveness in others."
Andy Rogers sculpts pieces out of clay to resemble, but not copy, objects he observes in the natural world. He works with a variety of clays, each adding different qualities to the final piece. His surfaces are varied both in material and application. He dips, sprays, brushes, and airbrushes layers of colored slip, terra sigillattas, glazes, stains, and acrylic paints to achieve surfaces rich in color and texture.
"Beauty, for me, is the quiet, the growing, the naturally emerging vessels produced by the earth. I, in turn, push my creativity to develop new objects that could likely be found living and growing in nature." Andy Rogers creates sculptures that are intriquing in appearance and satisfying to hold. Each piece is full of wonderful details and subtle surprises.
