Tall graceful vase is slab built of white stoneware clay. Each piece is impressed with freeform lines suggesting a landscape of distant hills. Glazed in a warm matte ivory color with a deep orange glaze accenting the top of the vase. Each piece is made by hand and color or pattern of glaze may vary slightly. Vase is completed with a sturdy hand-tied handle that has been dyed to compliment the orange glaze accent. The narrow footprint of this vase fits well on a mantle or shelf. Signed on bottom

Susan Wills creates hand built and extruded ceramic pieces that are functional and food safe, as well as decorative. Working predominantly with high fire stoneware, the artist uses a variety of unique glazes and slips to build interest and add texture to the clay surface. Each piece is fired twice, once to temper the ware for glazing, then a second time to over 2300° F in a natural gas kiln. Sturdy rattan handles made of imported reed and binding cane provide the final touch. Each reed is dyed to achieve a beautiful dark tone and then hand tied to accent each finished piece.
