Colorful, hand-built, footed, stoneware vase sporting a bold black and white zebra pattern. The artist uses a paper resist technique to apply the zebra like stripes, no two are exactly alike. The piece is finished inside and out with a clear gloss glaze. The lip of the vase is decorated with a bright orange matte finish. This piece has a narrow footprint which fits nicely on a shelf or mantle. Reed handles are dyed and hand tied to accent the piece. Signed on the bottom.

"I enjoy the entire process involved in creating ceramic artwork. Part craftsmanship, part chemistry, part fire, and toss in an element of surprise, it all makes my studio time a rewarding experience."

Susan Wills creates hand built and extruded ceramic pieces that are functional and food safe, as well as decorative. Working predominantly with high fire stoneware, the artist uses a variety of unique glazes and slips to build interest and add texture to the clay surface. Each piece is fired twice, once to temper the ware for glazing, then a second time to over 2300° F in a natural gas kiln. Sturdy rattan handles made of imported reed and binding cane provide the final touch. Each reed is dyed to achieve a beautiful dark tone and then hand tied to accent each finished piece.
