"Eclectus"

Giclee Print

Created by T.W. Wolff
A limited edition printed on Hahnemuhle German Etching paper using archival inks. The original piece is acrylic on canvas composed as an intimate portrait of a pair of Eclectus Parrots, native to New Guinea and the region.

Coloring between the genders is so disparate, that until recently the sexes were thought to be different species (the female is red). Another unique feature of the Eclectus is the fine, hairlike plumage around the head and neck. This created a special painting challenge. The feathers' flow was impossible to render with a deliberate, calculated application. A separate canvas was set up to practice a glancing, fluid stroke. Each feather was then accomplished in one, fast 'strike.' Prints are signed and numbered on the bottom margin. Limited edition of 200 per size.

About this Artist

T.W. Wolff

" A work of art comprised of answers is a decoration. Art lives when it asks questions."

Thomas Wolff's work is eclectic. Themes and style are a result, not the goal. He is fascinated by paradox and the connections between disparate subjects. Whether the theme is parrots, apes, or Iconography, the artist's work addresses the thin veil between Realism and the Surreal, and between the Spiritual and the Mundane.

Wolff works with a variety of mediums: oil, acrylic, pastel, and sculpted pieces formed of fiberglass, brass, and wood. Individual works often combine abstract and realist themes. Each piece creates its own demands. The portrait, 'Eclectus' required practice on a separate canvas of a glancing free-hand brush stroke in order to create the unique arc and flow of the birds fine head feathers.

The artist is largely self-taught, and for twenty-five years, has been a partner in Favette & Wolff, LLC - a fine art and mural firm.
