"Hydrangea Clouds II"

Giclee Print

Created by Betty Butler
Butler blended her own painting and photography in order to create this digital collage. After utilizing a scanned abstract painting as the background layer in a photo manipulation program, she superimposed several photos of hydrangea. Then she varied the opacity and color of the flowers to integrate the image. The hydrangeas finally seemed to float in a sky of color, which is why she named the series, Hydrangea Clouds. This giclee is printed on Sommerset Velvet Paper with Epson Ultrachrome archival ink and signed inside the image on the left side. Limited edition of 200 for all sizes combined.

About this Artist

Betty Butler

"My work is inspired by the color, shape and texture I observe in natural forms. "

Betty Butler blends painting and photography to create fine art digital collages. By combining the sensual qualities of abstract paint with recognizable imagery captured by the camera, Butler creates challenging yet harmonious perspectives of the natural world.

Using computer graphics programs, the artist collages and manipulates layers of trees, leaves, flowers, clouds, scanned painted canvases and digital brush strokes. These layers are then integrated with regard to color, line and rhythm. As a final step, these painting-photography collages translate beautifully into giclee prints, printed on Sommerset Velvet Paper, using Epson Ultrachrome archival ink. They are available in various sizes.

Betty Butler earned her B.A. in Design from the University of Illinois, Chicago. She also studied in New York City at The Cooper Union College of Art, where she was exposed to a multitude of museums and galleries exhibiting a wide variety of painting styles, from classical to modern.
