"Color excites me. I love to create an interplay among colors and forms that is dynamic and balanced, challenging and pleasing to the eye."

Connecticut painter Julie Leff specializes in abstract oils because they allow her to explore her love of color. Each painting is the solution to a challenge of composing light, color, and negative and positive spaces to create an intriguing and satisfying unity. She loves painting with oils because of their vibrancy and the beautiful ways in which they can be blended.

She starts each painting with an idea--a structure or a shape. Then she chooses colors that create a pleasing and dynamic relationship to each other. The form evolves until it is fully realized. To create a giclee, she photographs the work at the highest quality and prints it using archival inks on acid-free UV-protected paper. These are printed with 2-inch borders, signed and numbered on the front lower right corner.

Leff has studied drawing at Yale University and at the Silvermine Guild in Connecticut. She studied painting with noted Connecticut painter Charles Ray and ultimately developed her own techniques to suit her subject matter.
