At a time when our culture is focused on the trendy and disposable, Lisa Crowder makes art jewelry intended to be worn for years instead of months. She wants the wearer to think of her jewelry as more than a pair of earrings, but as a small work of art. She hopes to create a relationship between her work and the wearer through clean lines and pleasing forms.

The artist's current work is very much about the metal itself; its color, malleability, and form. Often, she goes straight to the metal and begins building without help from a sketched design. She is inspired by simple forms found in nature and architecture. She works predominantly in sterling silver and uses oxidation and a matte finish on many of her pieces to enhance the layers and details she creates through forming, hammering, riveting, and soldering. Simple forms such as circles, ovals, triangles, and squares repeat themselves within this body of work as they build upon each other, creating a feel that is familiar yet original and timeless.
