About this Artist

Cynthia Bringle

"Be it on clay or canvas, painting has been an integral part of my life for more than 40 years."

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, to a physician father, Cynthia Bringle and her twin sister Edwina were the first of five children. Cynthia loved to paint and began taking art classes as a teenager. So impressed were her teachers that they encouraged her parents to send her to art school.

Today, Cynthi aBringle and her sister are both professional artists and leaders in the North Carolina crafts movement. Cynthia is a painter and potter and Edwina is a weaver. Cynthia was a member of the North Carolina Arts Council for three terms and has been on the board of the North Carolina Pottery Center.

Bringle earned a BFA from Memphis Academy of Art and an MFA from Alfred University, NY. She has devoted a portion of her career to teaching at the internationally known Penland School of Crafts, just down the road from her studio overlooking the mountains.
