Herb Jackson is a painter who has turned repeatedly to printmaking to express the quiet intensity for which his work is known. These vitreographs, created at Littleton Studios, combine intaglio printmaking with digital transfer. The resulting use of rich color combines with an illusory texture that allows the eye to drift into atmospheric depths.

In the same way that Jackson's paintings are built of scraped layers, the shapes and marks in these prints show the integral nature of process so important in all of Jackson's work. The final outcome is the result of a process of discovery similar to the life experience itself.

Herb Jackson has exhibited in over one hundred one-person exhibitions in the U.S. and England, Peru, Portugal and Canada. Critic Donald Kuspit included Herb Jackson's paintings in the first exhibition of contemporary American art presented in the former Soviet Union. His work is in over eighty museum collections. In 2001, Herb Jackson was given the North Carolina Award by the governor, which is the highest civilian honor bestowed by the state.
