About this Artist

Scott Nelles

"My life revolves around my art in three dimensions."

Scott Nelles pronounced {nell-ess} creates cast bronze sculpture by using the trades of industry. Much of the inspiration for his work actually comes from the process in which he makes it. Cast metal Toy cars, boats, and airplanes take him back to his childhood in Detroit where his father, a manufacturers representative would take Scott on factory tours. The dramatic sight and heat of molten metal became a part of his soul and the excitement of the foundry process has never left him.

Many people are aware of the" lost wax method" of creating bronze castings and sculpture. Scott Nelles on the other hand creates his art by using the "sand casting method". This process is seldom used in the arts and very few are aware of it's possibilities. Nelles has tried to take advantage of his process to express his artistic visions and also make his art more available to the public.

Faced with uncontrollable ambition Scott dropped out of art school and traveled across the country until he ended up in Seattle, WA. in 1972. Seattle was home to several small foundries. With the help of these foundries, he was able to gain a knowledge base which finally allowed him to open his own facility back in his home state of Michigan.

Beautiful!!
This is a heavy bronze scupture - beautiful all year long. It took me years to commit to buying a new menorah, but I chose the right one! This is also the first menorah that is fully functional: it has the right sized holes for the candles. With all others, I had to wrap the candle bases in aluminum foil to keep upright and keep from dripping on the menorah. These holes are snug - I used a pencil sharpener to whittle the ends of the candles so they would fit - and they don't fall over. And when the wax dripped on the menorah, it came right off with warm water, unlike other menorahs. I had a lot of company for Chanukah and everyone remarked at how lovely the menorah is.The only problem is that the tree root 'legs" do not sit completely level. There is some wobble. I am told the artist will fix this for me. This menorah is well worth the price. I love it!

Very Nice
This is a very beautiful item, even more beautiful in person. I couldn't stop gazing at it at my home. Its really that pretty. The first set of candles from [...] were much too large for the candle holders but I went to another store and their two sizes fitted snugly. Some of the store bought candles may have a extra coat for design that might get scraped off just a little while putting them in but that's better to me than having a menorah which the candles wont stick up straight and fall sideways in my opinion. They backup candles that I bought didn't have the extra design coating and they fit perfectly. Roger
