This stylized interpretation of a crane dancing is fabricated in steel sheet and rod which is then heated with a torch until black-hot and scrubbed into with a brass brush, the brass imparting itself into the open pores of the steel. Individual models may vary slightly.

"I'm driven by an urge to create my own ideas in three dimensions."

Charles McBride White uses the natural elements of metal and water to create architectural and organic forms, fusing these elements with equal balance to create melodic sculptural fountains. Most of White's sculptures are welded metal constructions comprised of hundreds of parts and actions. Using his knowledge of flowing water, White controls the splash and creates soothing sounds, which range from a bubbling brook to soft metallic tinkling to a spring rain.

Fountains often require several prototypes to perfect the design, with the desired water effect frequently dictating the shape of the sculpture. Charles White began designing with water in 1980 and it is a main concentration in his work today.
