Robert A. Brown and Anne Moran
"We want to create focal points of pure beauty, objects that engage in visual meditation."
Meticulously crafted, Moran Brown's artworks speak of color, rhythm of shapes and texture all working together to create wall sculptures of tranquil, sometimes dynamic beauty. A wonderful aspect of their work is the metal's reflective quality, which underneath oxidized pigments, produces a luminescent richness unique to this medium.
They achieve a rich palette from heating copper sheet with an oxy-acetylene torch. There is a large amount of spontaneity to this process which inspires and directs their designs. Interplay of color and mark making are key elements in their work. In the "Cascade Series," they are exploring relationships of colors and patterns both deliberate and random.
Each artist worked as an Artist's assistant, Anne Moran as a coppersmith, Robert Brown as a bronze sculptor, for several years before becoming full time self-employed artists. Through constant experimentation, they developed their own unique process to oxidize copper using materials and techniques and to create finishes not seen anywhere else. Over the last decade, their work has been placed in many personal collections, prominent hotel lobbies, financial institutions and medical facilities throughout the United States.
