"The pastel medium is akin to working with pure pigment and provides a unique spontaneity and richness of color that suits the way I work and the images I depict."

Saturated color and a dramatic sense of light and mood are the hallmark of Victoria Ryan's paintings. Soft pastel has been her primary medium to create these compositions that depict a dreamlike reality since she first started working with them while in college.

Layers of color are applied and manipulation of effect is achieved through blending, lifting and reapplying pigment. In recent years she has returned to her roots as an oil painter with a series of works on canvas to compliment her body of work in pastel. Ryan, who lives and works on the north coast of California, received her B.F.A. in Painting and Drawing from California State University at Long Beach. For 25 years she has been exhibiting in featured exhibitions and group shows nationwide. An award winning artist, her work can be found in public, corporate and private collections worldwide.
