About this Artist

Nedra DiFilippo

"My drawings are sightings of what arises between form and the formless, offering a chance to visit traces of previous identities and new relationships in space and within ourselves."

Multimedia artist Nedra DiFilippo uses line, color, and mood to retrieve the sense data inherent in space before form becomes so familiar and burdened with identity. Drawing that "presence" is a surrender to what is as it appears, not what one thinks it should be or has been. This sparks the energy to dissolve and relocate new relationships in space and inside of us. Giacometti said, "Drawing is all."

DiFilippo prefers a hard surface since her work demands physical effort in order to layer, erase, embed, and layer again. Many times, older drawings exist as history under new works. Anything outside and inside the studio is subject to being used for mark making, including oil pastels, powder pigments, inks, pencils, charcoal, and material from nature.

DiFilippo's love of drawing dates back to early childhood. Her background includes fine art, philosophy, phenomenology, theology, and psychotherapy. She is versed in representational, figurative, abstract, drafting and 3D art. DiFilippo attended the Minneapolis School of Art, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the Institute of American Indian Art in New Mexico, and the Santa Fe Institute of Fine Art.
