Pastel Painting

Created by Christian Culver
Christian Culver's work combines shape, color, and form in what he calls architectural 'citygraphs'. Each piece is an interpretation of physical reality - a map that offers a new way of looking at the world.

Culver is interested in the way we interact with images of art and architecture in the modern world. We see hundreds of images every day, in a greater concentration than ever before in history. We are so accustomed to these images that we scarcely notice their total impact. Even though we pass by the images quickly and can choose to look away, we get the impression that images are continually passing. What does this way of seeing mean for architecture and objects in general? Is architecture continuously being reduced to a simple image or object? Do we still 'see?'
