The melons and marbles in Marlies Najaka's watercolors shine with a refreshing brightness ? not surprising from an artist who also writes and illustrates children's books. The simplicity of her images enables viewers to picture what else could be on the kitchen table next to the bowl of cherries, or near the tomato vine in the garden.

Like her paintings, Najaka's digital giclée prints are produced on archival watercolor paper with deckled edges, with all of the subtlety and multiple glazes of the original. As with any good picture book, all that is absent from Marlies Najaka's watercolors is present in the viewer's world of make-believe.
