This boldly textured jacket is crafted from intricate layers of lustrous, hand-loomed Indian silk, pieced together using a reverse applique technique. Subtle yet complex, the distinct patterning combines rich bronze, gold, umber, and black in an intriguing pattern. A sheer lining allows fluidity and grace of movement.

"To make a painting in the form of a jacket, as we do, allows the viewer to literally step into the artwork, to feel its weight on their shoulders and its texture in their hands. Only then does the piece come to life, in a collaboration between the wearer and us."

Kathleen and Tim Harding were early innovators in the Art to Wear Movement, and were inspired by the iconic cultural role of the Kimono, an object of both functional and aesthetic value. With their richly colored and densely textured jackets, the artists create unique expressions of beauty and wearability. The Hardings use a complex form of free-reverse applique to accent the interplay of sheer and opaque silk. Each multi-layered fabrication features iridescent, hand-loomed Indian silks. The vibrant, luminous colors fall in seemingly organic patterns like a bird's feathers or the bark of a tree.
