Reiko Miyagi

Reiko started her art career as a potter but became interested in jewelry making after she came to the US. Regardless of the media she maintains her Japanese appreciation of the subtle beauty, harmonious colors and forms from the natural world.

Reiko fabricates her jewelry using sterling silver, copper and 18K gold. She then adds layers of kiln-fired enamel to bring color and depth to her pieces. To apply the enamel she uses both sifting and painting technique to create her individual style to her work.

Reiko has a bachelors degree in Contemporary Art from Tama Art University in Tokyo. She learned jewelry-maiking from attending classes at California College of Art and Richmond Art Center in the San Francisco Bay Area. Beyond these classes she is largely self-taught.
