"My purpose is to use late 20th century materials, primarily from the electronics industry, to create pieces that have the look and feel of previous centuries."
Susan McGehee is a weaver who has recently abandoned the limp web of fiber for a more durable medium: metal recycled from the aerospace industry. Incorporating traditional weaving techniques and patterns, she uses a computerized 16-harness dobby loom to weave lightweight pieces that seem to float on the wall or in space.
McGehee's work includes sculptural wire kimonos that are created from bronze or stainless steel screening, which are then embellished with electronic odds and ends, residual scraps of wire left over from weavings, and an eclectic variety of found treasures.» View the full artist page of Susan McGehee
