The Snowflakes blanket chest celebrates a winter wonderland! Made from bent laminations of sawn solid wood, the legs are cherry, the side panels are tulip poplar with snowflake carvings front and back, highlighted in white milk paint on a background of bayberry green, and the end panels are
bookmatched cherry crotch wood. The interior walls are lined with aromatic red cedar.
In this chest, Pitts continues his work in a theme of sweeping legs and curved surfaces, but now with a palette for his carvings. The gently curved hardwood laminations are from local Chesapeake Bay trees that have fallen in storms or were dying and given new life with his sawmill and solar drying kiln. The finely finished shellac polish on the cherry is a joy to touch.
Open the blanket chest on its fine brass hardware and take in the soothing aroma of the red cedar laminations on the inner walls. A wonderful piece that will bring years of joy to a home! Branded inside, and signed and numbered underneath. Custom carvings or colors for the sides can be arranged.
This piece should need only an occasional dusting and an occasional coat of wax on the shellaced surfaces. Sunlight will gently darken the cherry to a golden brown. As with any fine furniture piece, avoid contact with liquids.
