"BamBungalo Media Console"

Wood Console Table

Created by Aren Irwin
The BamBungalo Media Console was inspired by the concept of texture. The piece features 3 sliding doors which divide the console into different compartments for various media items. The doors are created through layering small Bamboo pieces together in a woven style pattern. This not only achieves an effect rich in texture, but it also allows for light (and a remote control beam) to pass through the doors. The shell of the console features Bamboo end grain which provides a beautiful intensity, and again, a strong sense of texture.

About this Artist

Aren Irwin

"I am dedicated to creating high quality, unique furniture pieces that will become beloved fixtures in your home or office for a lifetime. Each carefully crafted piece of furniture has gone through a rigorous design process, has had its materials thoughtfully selected, and will inspire you to interact with it in a meaningful way."

Furniture-maker Aren Irwin explores the synergistic relationship between form and function, carefully crafting each piece of furniture to heighten the user's awareness. His belief is that people are strongly connected to furniture --"we sit in chairs, eat at tables, and sleep in beds. The form of furniture speaks to its function, but certainly its form must speak to us."

Irwin's designs are heavy in geometry and math and use a variety of woodworking techniques, ranging from the more traditional approach (hand-cut mortise and tenons, finger joints, dovetailing, bent lamination) to more sculptural methods based on layering and carving. Methods used in creating the drawings for his pieces often mirror the methods used for building them.

Irwin has a degree in Architecture and Three Dimensional Design from Washington University in St.Louis, MO. His studies included classes in Architecture, Furniture Design, Drawing, Mechanical Engineering, Sculpture, and Theater Set Design. He has since worked for various custom cabinet and furniture companies, taught woodworking and design, and now works from his studio in Albuquerque, NM.
