The central walnut elements of this graceful console table flow and float like wistful thoughts. Each element is shaped by hand with a traditional spokeshave, and supports the dyed mahogany top. Pulver carves subtle textural linework into the top edge and mahogany base, lending a final touch of artistry to the table's striking presence.

About this Artist

Dean Pulver

"Carving is: silence, control, a search for form, texture, a trace of man's hand, a record of the creative process, a moment frozen in time."

One of Dean Pulver's deepest interests is appropriating the design aesthetics of various cultures. Most recently, he's been involved in designing and fabricating furniture whose spirit reflects that of primitive art. Pulver admires the innocence and honesty within this work and hopes to speak in a similar voice.

Complicated stack lamination and brick laying determine the construction of Pulver's furniture. After using a band saw and power carvers to rough out the forms, he hand carves with traditional tools to refine the images and design. The finished creations are elegant works of art with a striking presence and vitality.
